William Cook Jr
His interest in art was spurred at an early age by their grandfather, Gus Matilpi. Gus taught them the essential elements of art. He impressed upon them both the importance of art and how it can be used to connect and preserve the culture of their people.
William was born in Alert Bay on Nuu-Chah-Nulth land and what is now the northern tip of Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada. His heritage is of the ‘Namgis, Ma’amtagila and Mamalilikala tribes.
